General surgery, which is one of the most important and comprehensive fields of medicine, is gradually being replaced by special surgery with the rapid development of technology and the increase in the variety of surgical techniques for the treatment of diseases related to organs that are general surgery’s fields of interest. Thus, a general surgeon, who is knowledgeable in a broad spectrum of areas, also becomes a specialist surgeon by specializing in different areas of general surgery.

Experienced teams of our center carry out the surgeries listed below.

  • Endocrine surgery involving benign diseases and cancers of the thyroid
  • Surgery of benign breast tumors and breast cancers
  • Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) system surgeries involving the liver, bile ducts, gallbladder and pancreas
  • Surgery of cancers involving the esophagus, stomach, small and large intestine and anal region
  • Surgery of gallstones and hernias
  • Surgery for anorectal diseases
  • Bariatric surgeries providing permanent weight control

Breast Surgery

The treatment of benign tumors and cancers of the breast is carried out with the surgical techniques applied in the most advanced centers of the world, personalized surgical approaches, methods aiming at patient comfort, and a multidisciplinary approach. In breast cancer surgeries, we only take the principle of removing the tumor area and preserving the integrity of the breast as a basis. However, if tumors have developed at many points in the breast, the entire breast can be removed (mastectomy). In these cases, restoration of breast aesthetics with reconstructive surgery techniques is performed in the same session. In this way, the risk of the patient's organ loss is eliminated.

Endocrine Surgery

These are surgical treatments applied for the diseases of the glands of internal secretion. Surgical treatment of benign and malignant diseases of the thyroid gland, nodular goiter, toxic goiter, thyroid cancer, parathyroid gland diseases, adrenal gland diseases and tumors, benign tumors and diseases of the pancreas is performed within the scope of endocrine surgery.

The vein is closed at the desired location with the help of energy devices during the surgery. In this way, the risk of bleeding is reduced.

Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery

We apply world-class techniques in the surgery of benign diseases and tumors of the liver, pancreas and biliary tract, and gastrointestinal system tumors. We use the most appropriate surgical methods for patients by evaluating them individually before cancer surgeries.

Gastroenterology Surgery

We perform surgical treatments of benign diseases and cancers related to stomach, small and large intestine, esophagus, and rectum with advanced surgical technologies applied in the most developed cancer centers in the world, by determining the most appropriate surgical techniques for patients after evaluating them individually. In oncological surgery, most of the operations are performed with laparoscopy, which is a closed surgical technique, and the patient experiences a comfortable post-procedure period and gains enough time for additional treatments.

Bariatric Surgery

Surgical interventions performed to treat people with a Body Mass Index (BMI) higher than 40 or BMI greater than 35 and who have some chronic diseases and therefore have significant health problems are called "Bariatric Surgery" or Obesity Surgery. In 7M Hospital, bariatric surgeries are performed with the closed method and the recovery period of the patient is shortened. Although the procedures such as gastric band lost their validity, the most frequently used effective methods are tube stomach surgeries and, to a lesser extent, gastric bypass.

Obesity is considered as the "disease of the century" and its treatment should be provided with a team and council approach that will fight the disease in every aspect.

Bariatric surgeries are performed to treat obesity, which leads to many diseases in Turkey as in the developed countries of the world and is also considered a disease, with a multidisciplinary perspective. Because obesity is an important risk factor in the formation of diseases such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases (many diseases with heart attack, stroke, and vascular occlusion), breast and prostate diseases, gynecological problems, and colon cancer. In addition, obesity has a significant contribution in the formation of many diseases including arthritis, gallstones, reflux, varicose diseases, menstrual irregularities, infertility, delivery difficulties, sleep apnea syndrome, sleep disorders and depression.

Personalized Surgery

The surgical method to be applied to the patient is planned according to the patient's weight, diseases accompanying obesity and dietary habits. There are various types and practices of bariatric surgery methods that differ from each other in terms of surgical technique and long-term results. Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy and Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass surgeries are among the accepted, preferred and applied methods of today.

Contribution of Bariatric Surgeries to Life Comfort of Patients

• The risk of having a cardiovascular disease and heart attack decreases.

• Asthma attacks decrease, and, in some patients, they disappear completely.

• Respiration returns to normal a few months after surgery.

• The patient can resume physical activities that he/she had to quit due to obesity.

• Acid leakage from the stomach to the esophagus caused by reflux is reduced.

• High blood pressure is managed.

Patients who underwent an obesity surgery are followed up after surgery by an endocrinologist, by a specialist dietitian who plans medical nutrition plan for permanent weight control and/or existing health problems and provides nutrition training for the patients to help them gain healthy dietary habits, by a psychologist and psychiatrist experienced in the treatment of eating disorders, and by physical therapists and physiotherapists who plan patient-specific exercises that are suitable to physical condition of patients.

Proctology Surgery

Proctology is the branch of medicine that concerns all diseases in the anus region (anal canal, perineum) and the last part of the large intestine (rectum, sigmoid colon, descending colon).

Proctological examination includes physical examination, anoscopy, rectoscopy, and colonoscopy procedures performed to diagnose all of the pain, swelling, bleeding, itching, inflammatory findings, rectal discharge, tumors, and masses in the anal area.

The diagnoses and treatment methods for the patients who applied to our proctology center with complaints and findings related to anal area diseases are listed below.

Investigating the causes of bleeding in the form of a swab from the anus during and/or after a bowel movement, bleeding in the form of drops, and gushing bleeding.

Pain like a blade cut in the anus area during a bowel movement and the continuation of this pain after the bowel movement, along with blood in the form of a line on the stool, bleeding in the form of drops and pain in the rectal area for hours (anal fissure)

Inflammatory discharge not related to having a bowel movement and that stain the underwear, palpable and stiff canal structure (anal fistula)

Difficulty in having a bowel movement, thin stool (anal stenosis)

Bowel incontinence and flatus incontinence (anal incontinence)

Bleeding during a bowel movement without feeling pain (first-degree hemorrhoids)

Hemorrhoids prolapse from the anus during and after a bowel movement and retract on their own in time (second-degree hemorrhoids)

Hemorrhoids prolapse during a bowel movement and must be pushed back in by a finger (third-degree hemorrhoids)

Hemorrhoids prolapse during a bowel movement and cannot be pushed back in and feeling of pain (Forth-degree hemorrhoids)

Prolapse of the anterior wall of the rectum from the posterior wall of the uterus, especially when standing up, straining, and during a bowel movement (rectocele)

Passage of stool from the posterior vaginal wall (rectovaginal fistula)

Prolapse of rectal mucosa entirely or with its other layers during each bowel movement (rectal prolapse)

Painless and hard nodular masses with ulcerated bleeding or discharge in the anus area that grow in months (anal cancer)

Constipation and defecation disorders (ostomy and stoma problems)

Bleeding and having difficulty in a bowel movement, thin stool (rectal cancer)

All of these diseases are diagnosed by proctological examination and advanced tests, and their treatment is carried out in our hospital by general surgeons working in this field.

In addition, rectal stenosis, fecal incontinence, and recurrences, which occur in patients who have previously undergone surgical intervention due to rectal diseases, are also treated in the proctology unit of our hospital.
